The Development of Penisilin

The development of penisilin started, but definitely did not end, with the chance discovery of some mould in a petri dish. But it piqued the interest of medical historians who started looking for earlier uses of mould as a treatment for wounds or diseases. The vast majority of these treatments involved using mould to make a topical preparation for wounds. Aboriginal and indigenous peoples all around the world have used moulds medicinally as well. There is also some evidence that more than two thousand years ago, people in northern africa consumed something that contained enough tetracyclin to leave evidence on their bones.
