The National Diet in Hungary

The national diet opened in Pressburg, that is, modern branislava, on November 11, 1847. When the emperor offered a few words in magyar as a way of friendly reconciliation, delegates who had been elected from Croatian realms took offense and almost walked out. After this hiccup, the imperial government tried to take the wind out of the sails of radical Hungarian nationalists by preemptively offering many conservative reforms.
