Hackers are using fake police data requests to trick companies into handing over data. Using their illicit access to police e mail systems, the hackers will send a fake e d r along with an attestation that innocent people will likely suffer greatly or die unless the requested is provided immediately. It's now clear that some hackers have figured out that there's no quick and easy way for a company that receives one of these e d rs, to know whether it is legitimate.
