The Role of the Priest in the Catholic Church

The role of the priest is not necessarily coextensive with the role of a pastor or a teacher. Most parishes are female dominated when it comes to parish leadership and administrative leadership, she says. The idea that only men can be priests usually gets expanded to only men can teach and only men can preach. So women can't give the homily in the mass, because the mass is having a specifical liturgical function.
