When I think of the prose of Thomas Wolfe, it's like an overly handled crust or something. Overly attended to overdone, he puts too many words into a short phrase that could have a quicker, speedier, more precise passage. But for them he represented something stylistically new at that time. Did your parents recommend that you read certain books or did they kind of let you follow your own course through their library?
