The History of Fortifications in the French Army

The French Army War Council would not agree upon the basic structure of the fortifications until 1927. The military threats of 1928 and the years prior were very different than what would be seen a decade later in 1938. By the time that the defenses were needed the plans from the mid-20s were starting to show their age, although they did not mean that they could not still be effective.
