The Role of Censorship in Decision Making

Jacob Soboroff: I want to unpack each of those and there will be others that probably pop up as we have this conversation. As the recent Senate Foreign Relations Committee report on digital authoritarianism underscores, all of these issues are in the grand scheme of things, relatively new and emerging problem sets. The first step to address these issues is to disambiguate and decouple aspects of these issues that are directly salient to national security. And preventing governments and their proxies from artificially downranking content can go a long way to stem online censorship and disinformation.
