Is Gorbachev the Greatest Person in the World?

Gorbachev was that character for me in this book because I had not been as familiar with the fall of the Soviet Union, like how it wrapped up. To have him repeatedly stand up in the very office that Stalin occupied and said, too bad, I'm not going to have all this blood on my hands is something that's so heroic. The other thing is there's this kind of meme in right-of-center circles that powerful people will never seed power voluntarily. And if you're anticipating or hoping that powerful people are going to do the right thing, you're crazy, right? Like, this is not a roulette spin you're going to win.
