How Primates Manage the Fertility Problem
In primates societies work the species that live in ever bigger groups seem to have broken through glass ceilings. They exploit these very high level cognitive skills which are extremely expensive computation so they require a lot of neural processes. The ability to inhibit pre-poken responses is basically not to let the red mist rise when somebody is annoying you. If you exert violence in response to uh somebody else annoying you then that tends to destabilize the level of equanimity in the community as a whole and cause people to want to leave. So if you want to keep them together you have to exercise the skills of diplomacy or something similar.
