Larry Ray's Satanic, Panicked Style Intrusions Into Their Lives
Zach Heinz Erling: Larry Ray was a man who somehow weaponized his severe mental illness to ensnare a group of vulnerable people in his paranoid control fantasies. The film also shows that reconciling with families after tragedies like this might be possible, says Julian Zelizer. In the interview you'll hear Daniel talk about how conservative and right wing many of Ray's actual behaviors were. But he successfully cloaked his politics in a kind of anti-authoritarian ambivalence while playing the authoritarian himself and the arbiter of truth. When we return, we'll do a debrief on why this doc works so well and why it's so important to get these stories right.
