Ideology, the ideology did trump medical evidence here. It may have been well-intentioned that there was a desire to help distressed young people but it stemmed from a belief that you were helping someone fulfill their true identity. So I think that is where you can certainly say that ideology influenced because this was a belief system really, it wasn't based on evidence. Things can be well intentioned but ill-informed. Who's to blame? Lots of people are to blame. The leadership of jeds is to blame and they should take responsibility for the decisions they did and didn't make.
