There's a book by robert hegel called true crimes in eighteenth century china. The point of that book is the arkives themselves, which are remarkable sources for getting at people who come into contact with the legal system. And i'm just acutely aware and in 20 20, i became acutely aware of it. I was planning to go to china, like many of us, in the spring of 20 20. That didn't happen. But even before china had uh shut down for epidemiological reasons, and traveled just around the world, had become un in feasible.
