The History of Pokémon
Pokémon Red and Blue was released in Japan first in 1996, where the tiny pocket monsters quickly became a cultural phenomenon. By January 1, 1999, the Washington Post declared on their annual list of what's in and out that Pokémon is in and Tamagotchis are out. An original 1989 Game Boy is in the Smithsonian alongside early cell phones, PDAs, and pagers in a display at the American Enterprise exhibit. You know you're old when the stuff you played with as a kid or a teen is now on display at a museum.
