Ruth Ben-Giat is a historian at New York University, and the author of Strongman from Mussolini to the Present. She twice testified before the United States House Select Committee investigating the attack on January the 6th. The idea was to declare martial law and then have the military rerun the election. However, that didn't work because the US military, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff General Millet, they wouldn't go along with this plan.
