Reagan's Obsession With STI
In 1986, Reagan and Gorbachev met in Reykjavik to discuss the development of STI. The U.S. was working on a prototype that could be used for nuclear weapons. But when SDI became operational, it would eclipse one final source of strength or advantage the Soviet Soviets still have: ICBMs. That's why Gorbachev is so desperate to stop any further development of SDI.
