The Four Fundamental Forces in Quantum Field Theory
understanding these particles as interacting fields makes it easier for us to compare their strength. The strong nuclear force, the gluon, couples very strongly with other fields. So those are the four fundamental forces and roughly how we think of them in terms of particles but also as fields. Remember that light can be a particle and a wave. All particles can either be particles or just spikes in an energy field. There might also, Corinne, be a fifth fundamental force. This would be kind of like the antithesis to gravity where gravity is an inherent quality of matter. If you have mass, then it will attract other mass towards it through gravity.
