CHAPTER

The Adaptive Part of Hindsight Bias

The adaptive part of the hindsight bias comes from what's commonly called sense making. We create this narrative that the path from A to B was inevitable and there were no other twists and turns we could have taken along the way. So, for example, at the University of Minnesota, where I'm a professor, we might ask the likelihood that our football team, the GoFers, are going to win their football game this weekend. And frequently what you see is that people don't recall necessarily their earlier estimate. But what they do now is make their estimate kind of become in line with the actual event as it played out.
