The Importance of Suffering
Ireland has produced a disproportionate number of great writers in the English language. Jonathan Swift, Oscar Wilde, James Joyce, William Eats, Seamus Heaney, Samuel Becca, Iris Murdoch, Frank McCourt, Bram Stoker, and Lewis himself. And I've often thought this is a country that has suffered much. There's a depth that sometimes comes from suffering. But it's also a country of great, great beauty.
