Are Your Emotional Circuits Engaged?

If you think emotions are triggered, then there are one set of things that you do. And if you believe that your brain makes emotions, constructs emotions, assembles them for a particular purpose in a particular way, then that leads you to do other things and try to manage your emotional life. But the point is that- Quickly, and you need to get it quickly. Those circuits, really what they're for are regulating and coordinating the systems of your body. They're always engaged. It's just that they were, if you want to really ramp those circuits up and drive them really hard, you put animals in situations where they have to flee from a predator or whatever.
