Is Taiwan the Most Dangerous Place in the World?
Lyle J. Goldstein: By focusing on Taiwan as a major point of our strategy, we're not only engaging in a major arms race with China, but there is a real risk of catastrophic war - even nuclear war. The bottom line is that China has both the will and the requisite capabilities to conquer Taiwan,. It could happen tomorrow. 90% of Americans couldn't find Taiwan on a map. There's little prospect of these factors changing. So I think we should be smart, think strategically and realize that this is simply beyond the reach of our power.
