For centuries, it involved breaking young girls toes and then soaking them in animal blood. It made the legs look muscular and it was an erotic treasure for men. The girls hobbled gate was supposed to tighten their vaginas. At least for the feet, the bonsai trees, like I said, they don't feel pain, but they certainly will respond to it. So you're basically keeping that tree in a very stressed state, it's entire life.
