Learning to Do Crosswords - I Love That!
In order to be able to solve cryptic crosswords, you need a vast amount of knowledge about abbreviations. And yes, you can develop that body of knowledge just by looking at the answers and slowly but surely build up this body of knowledge. But if you only do that, you not only miss the point but you lose the motivation to continue actually learning to do crosswords. You have to do them, even though it might not in that moment feel like the most efficient way to transmit knowledge or whatever it might be. If we consider what a child would require to have success in as a mathematician, and our goal is feeding into a child having success as a mathematician when they're 18 or
