How do we develop emotional safety? It's knowing what your defense mechanism is. Maybe you were born with a sensitive temperament and didn't like when your parents fought. Your way of kind of protecting yourself was by tuning out, aka also known as numbing. The beauty of starting to make it a conscious effort to increase the safety within your relationship is noticing the ways in which you deplete from it.
