Introduction

This chapter examines the Reagan White House's strategy to strengthen the Afghan insurgency against the Soviets through increased CIA operations and alliances with warlords and dictators. The Soviet Union, on the other hand, attempts to initiate peace talks with Pakistan as they prepare to propose a peace solution to the United Nations.
