I left the church basically the day that I graduated BYU. It was kind of a long time coming, and for me it was one of the most important decisions of my life in terms of setting myself free. And John had the same trajectory. He was brought up as a Mormon and then left the church. There's so much about me that he gets intrinsically because he experienced it himself.
