In the midst of a global pandemic and continued racial injustice in the United States, policing persists. What we've seen is how SEL practices including restorative justice and mindfulness have been co-opted and weaponized against black and brown young people. In Gwyneth County, Georgia, a teacher was chastised by the district for displaying a black lives matter poster during her online class. A black seventh grader, Isaiah and Colorado played with a Nerf gun during class in his school called the police. He was suspended for five days and received a documented record with the Passo County Sheriff's office saying that he brought a firearm to school,. even though it was a toy in his home
