Both communist and capitalist systems in the arctic instituted systems of control that serve to exploit labor, harm environments and subjugate indigenous people. How do these systems of control manifest throughout history? And what is the harm in subscribing to the idea that we can somehow control nature? It's so interesting to put myself in the shoes of a nineteenth century whaler, and what a different world that must have been. But the details are really fascinating.
