If you look at the dark lanes within our own galaxy, the Milky Way across the sky, there's a stretch of darkness that looks like an emu. The Western cultures typically describe what they see based on the existence of a star and a pattern or senses of light. But if you look up, you don't see much in the way of stars on clear nights.
