If we didn't have that full, that idea of a complete set of causes, we wouldn't be able to pick out an instance. He says these are rationally consistent claims that you could make, but which we can't know is true or not because it exceeds the bounds of possible experience. We kind of need that idea to get our sort of cognition off ground, but we can't say that they're true or false. It's like this weird, absolute posite that i actually don't know in itself.
