The Invariance of Time Reversal in Physics

We don't know yet what the complete fundamental laws of physics are, but here's something that's true and strikingly true. All proposals for a fundamental theory of physics have shared this mathematical feature of invariance under time reversal. The world is just full of processes everywhere you look, which don't ever seem to happen in reverse unlike the case of billiard balls. But our everyday macroscopic experience of the world seems to be swarming with processes that are not time reversal symmetric. So once again, we don't knowyet what the final laws of physics will turn out to be, but there's some sense in which all of the testimony so far from our combined empirical and theoretical experience
