The first officer didn't notice that one engine had rolled back to idol, and the other was giving full thrusts still. He doesn't know what state the plane's in. Because theyare so low in the clouds, he can't see the horizon or anything outside. The auto throttle system deficiency had not been noted during test flightfor airworthiness certification of the aircraft. And taram knew nothing of this type of deficiency, which had never occurred on its own eig three ten aircraft.
