The Watergate Exposures
Watergate instigated a radical shift in the attitude of every one, regardless of their explicit ideology, toward government itself. Watergate indeed awakened the public to the invasions of personal liberty by government. By bringing about the impeachment of the president, it permanently de sanctified an office that had almost been considered sovereign by the american public. No one trusts any politician or government official any more. All government is viewed with abiding host y and distrust.
