The Democrats Don't Want Truman to Start an Investigating Committee
After World War I, after the war, there were 117 congressional investigations looking into all this waste and such. So Truman knew, what's the point? The job is done. His idea was let's do the investigation while we're getting ready to go to war. And so that's where the idea for the committee came from.
