Strauss seemed to be saying, in the initially, let's be much less fatal tic that human beings have been for the past few centuries. And be more assertive about ourselves. Doesn't mean we can control everything, but we can do a lot more than we're doing now. I think strauss recognized that as a trend within modernity that perhaps machiavelli didn't intend and didn't believe in, but was somehow embedded in his thought and the overcome.
