The Acropolis and the Restoration of Democracy
Work was restarted on the Acropolis's building program, which had been postponed following the disaster of the Sicilian expedition. The new program consisted of only a new parapet for the Temple of Athena Nike and the completion of the Erectheon. Sophocles' playphilic teeties took first prize at the city-dynia in the spring of 409 BC. Some scholars have interpreted this particular place as an allegory for Athens' problem of what to do about Alcibiades.
