The Importance of Solidarity

Angela Soledad was sentenced to life in prison for her role in the murder of Jonathan Soledad and his two friends. She wrote a book called If They Come In The Morning while she was still in jail. Nina Simone also visited her in jail bringing her a red balloon as a gift to lift her spirits. Dozens of countries and organizations across the globe were fighting for her freedom. Angela became Ty Magazines 1971 Woman of the Year. Eventually a nearly all-white jury could challenge one way or another, regardless of skin color,. But there were members who felt reasonable about the liberation of black people. And she had no problem with anyoneblack or white who supported just causes.
