The Gifto Counsels a Gift of the Holy Spirit
The gift of counsel is especially about its mode. How does it work? Prudence, says thomas, which entails the rectitude of reason, is perfected and helped most of all in so far as it's led and moved by the holy spirit. But how is it that god leads us? How is it that we are moved? We can only give very general answers to this question. Here's one thing we can say for certain, that however it is that god counsels us, he does this without violating our free will. This is just an extrapolation of the tomist maxim that grace does not destroy nature, but perfects it.
