In the original PerfectMediaServer guides, I used to recommend virtualizing a Ubuntu and then passing through all of the drive controllers to those virtual machines. That was in the days before I was an absolute quick sync snob. So essentially I decided at that point I've got no option. If I want hardware transcoding using quick sync, rather than having my dual-Z on box pool 400 watts, I only want to pull four watts when I'm doing a transcode. And that's it.
