Ehrlich's Concept of Immunity
In 1904, Carl Landstiner identified one of the first autoimmune diseases. Ehrlich's conceptual idea of immunity wasn't widely recognized at the time. He proposed that our cell membranes naturally contain anti-toxins or antibodies which bind tightly and irreversibly to foreign substances.
