The Evolution of Instinct
This week we read Bergsonism and I had brought up in our episode discussion just about I guess this Bergson sort of critiquing evolution is like a series of linear negations or something like that. He says the first of the Darwinians are probably right holding that evolution takes place from germ to germ rather than from individual to individual. The second are right so the neo-Lemarkians and saying that at the origin of instinct there is an effort although to something quite different we believe from intelligent effort. But he does think there is something to the gradualist more traditional Darwinian picture.
