The Decapitation of Enemies

There was a great culture of decapitation in battle, says Alistom. Roman writers observed that after battles they scarred skulls and put them in fences to ward off their enemies' ghosts. Celtic chieftains refused to give up a head for many pounds of gold - the Vikings did this too. There are stories of warriors right into the Middle Ages in the north of Scotland tying heads to their saddles.
