In 470 BC, the island of Naxos decided to quit sending ships and attending League meetings. The Athenians blockaded the island and forcefully put the rebellion down. Then, Naxos was punished by being forced to pay money as fair-offs. This event marked a huge turning point in Athens' relations with its Delhi and League allies.
