The Decline of the Unicorn in the 16th Century

The potency of the unicorn as a religious symbol appears to have been high, and then it began to decline in the 16th century. We certainly know the family who commissioned the ones in Clooney because there are coats of arms all over the place; they're called the Le-Vist family. Lauren: There seem to be several things going on here in the16th century which account for this shift in concern about what is unicorn and what is unicorn horn. So you have opening up a set of a market for, as it were, unicorn horn.
