"I was quite vocal about this to my fellow leftists on social media and the thing that struck me was the sheer vitriol with which I was met," he said. "There's no way that Jihadism, which has been going on in some form or another since the Prophet Muhammad, you know, in sort of the seventh century... This is a human problem." He added: "The left are supposed to be about helping people but if we're lying to ourselves about the causes behind the problems, then how are we gonna help people?"
