The Importance of Recognizing Consciousness
Peter Singer: Our ability to understand consciousness in other beings is always tied to our own experience, it's tied towards familiar to us. He says that once you recognize this relativity to what's familiar, we should recognize that that doesn't necessarily tell us that they're not conscious. And so likewise, he thinks of panpsychism as essentially the idea that there's something going on in a rock that differs only structurally and only by the way from what’s going on inside me.
