We tend to think that when the loved one dies, that the relationship is over. But oh no, in this culture, the relationship continues. There's different ways of going about it, like say you're in Vietnam. You might do a big conflagration of the body so everyone can come and see it. In North America, we're not embedded in this. We've been here for a couple hundred years. We're colonialists and takers of indigenous land. If you grew up in a place where you're more embedded in the landscape, your humanitarian practices are going to follow that.
