A vertical force is what you need to jump in the air. A lot of people will get the pressure into their heels, when they're swinging the golf club,. It's really hard to push down into the ground when you're swinging. And so if you get the pressure more into the ball of your foot than you're more optimately aline to to push downinto the ground, so the ground pushes back up in you and get you up in the air... i think it's a pretty cool analogy to look at when we talk about vertical forces.
