The Importance of Mining Licenses in Kinshasa
An international company still do have to apply for mining licenses through Kincasa. It's very surprising that over decades we haven't had any case where the government has sanctioned one of these companies like all the reports are always very good and this is very worrying. The artisanal side, so it's at smaller scale but you also have many people operating and in this case they don't even acquire the licenses and so on. They operate illegally and this gives them more leeway to kind of do whatever they want because they can hardly be punished since they require a license that can be taken away.
