Nastalgia and the Romantic Era
The romantic era was just one stream of nastalgia that fed into a global artistic expression of longing, yearning and reckoning with past and present. Nastaljia became a name for the pleasure and pain in the space between the certainty of the past and the uncertainty of what was to come. By the mid 19 fifties and sixties, nestalgi was no longer considered a malady, but a mood. This shift chipped away at the stigma previously associated with being nestalgic,. And once that was the case, nastalgia became more than a mood, it became marketable.
