Kala Manamana is a member of Navahe's 20th graduating class. Soon to be a freshman at Dartmouth College, a world away in New Hampshire. I asked Pele how she felt about her daughter leaving for college knowing she most likely won't encounter another Hawaiian speaker there. "I know that I have a responsibility to work hard for my mother and my father," Kala says.
